Every now and again it’s really nice to give your yoga mat a little TLC and a freshen up – especially if have a ‘sweaty’ practice or you use ‘communal’ mats at your local yoga studio / class. I’m not fussy, but you never know who’s feet might have been on the mat before you & whether their feet were clean and free of anything contagious!
So, having seen the cost of of yoga mat cleaners on various online yoga stores, I did a little investigation & found a great, natural mat cleaner that you can make in minutes & it costs next to nothing.
Here it is ….
- A small plastic/metal spray bottle
- Enough distilled water to fill the bottle. I found distilled water at my local supermarket where it is sold as water for steam irons.
To which you add:
- 10-15 drops of tea tree oil
- 5-7 drops of eucalyptus or rosemary oil
This particular recipe is a great anti-bacterial, anti-fungal spray but you could also use lavender & rose or a lavender & geranium mix if you wanted a more relaxing, uplifting scent on your mat. It’s great fun creating your own unique scent & way more fun than buying it ready made!
How to Use:
Spray your mat liberally & either, leave to dry naturally outside (away from direct sunlight) or, leave it to soak into the mat for a short while before ‘buffing’ the mat dry with a clean cloth.
About Nicole Stone… Yoga ‘discovered’ me 15 years ago one wet, winters night in a dusty village hall where I went with my friend who wanted to ‘give it a try’. I was totally hooked after that very first night &, after attending various classes for 6 months, I signed up to a 2 year training course to become a yoga teacher. Now, here I am, living in Spain and still absolutely LOVING to share the secrets of yoga with as many people as possible on my Yoga Breaks in Spain.
