Really, is a detox necessary?

With our Yoga & Detox Retreats here in sunny Spain, we wanted to make sure we did our homework to discover if a detox really does has a positive impact to our well-being .. or not.

What we discovered was quite shocking to be honest and here, in this blog, we’d like to outline the reasons why we believe it is absolutely necessary for you to detox your body.

Did you know that since the 1940’s over 90,000 synthetic chemicals have been added to our environment .. and not all have gone through, long term testing to assess their impact on our health.  Shocking isn’t it.

Every day we are exposed to a variety of toxic substances via the food we eat, the air we breathe, the liquids we drink & the products we use in our home – & on our skin.

And yes, whilst the beautiful human body is designed to rid itself of toxins, our organs of elimination – skin, lungs, liver, colon & kidneys – are so easily overwhelmed if they not given a chance to dispose of the toxins they hold.

What happens when the body is in a state of toxicity?

There are a whole host of symptoms the body displays when it’s toxicity is high.  We could; feel run down, tired, anxious, develop skin blemishes/rashes, gain weight, have low mood, feel depressed, suffer from reoccuring headaches, retain water, feel bloated, struggle to concentrate .. ‘foggy’ headed, our joints ache & we have trouble sleeping.  All signs the body is crying out for help!

The good news is, when the body is given a chance to rid itself of the toxins, we instantly feel healthier and our body functions far more efficiently.

Obviously, a ‘quick fix detox’ such as a day fasting or juicing has a limited effect.  For longer lasting results a period of sustained detoxification is far more effective to long term health. (A sustained period of cleansing such as our new yoga & detox retreats ! :)

Imagine how much cleaner, energized & lighter you would feel after a detox?

Think of it another way.   You change the oil & filters in your car to improve its performance, so why not make the same effort to cleanse your body?!?  Or, you spend hours (& much money) on external cleanliness – bathing, hair washing, brushing teeth, washing clothes, polishing shoes etc but what about internal cleanliness?!

So, with this in mind, here are Our Top 5 reasons to join us for a Yoga & Detox Retreat

1. Improve the effectiveness of your digestive organs

Everything you digest passes through the digestive system hence these organs hold most toxins and yet, are some of the hardest working organs in our body. We cannot afford for our digestive organs to be below par.

2. Strengthen your immune system

Freeing your organs of contaminants has a positive impact on your health as detoxification of your organs influences your lymphatic system – a network that helps rid the body of toxins & other unwanted materials. Hence, when toxins are cleared from your body, the immune system works more effectively thus reducing the risk of illness.

3. Clear Your Skin

The skin – the largest detoxification organ of your body- can display signs your body is in a state of toxicity via blemishes, spots, rashes & puffiness as the body ‘pushes’ the toxins out of the body through the skin. When you detox, the skin becomes clearer & more radiant. A detox bonus not to be missed!

 4. Give yourself an Energy Boost

You might think that cutting out certain foods during a detox will limit your energy but the truth is entirely different.   On detox, you don’t stop eating – you simply eat healthier. Vegetables and fruit are givers of natural energy that keeps you going through the day – much longer than a sugar or caffeine ‘fix’.

5.  Clear Your Head

A detox can improve concentration & broken sleep. Not only does your body rid itself of contaminants, so does your brain. After a few days detoxing, you may notice you sleep better and that sleep is much more restful. This means you’ll have more energy and will be able to focus more easily as your head won’t feel as clouded.
